AWL's mission is to empower people of all ages and abilities through inclusive, recreational experiences. Since 1995, Adventures Without Limits (AWL) has offered the only inclusive outdoor recreation program in the area and serves over 1,300 people each year. AWL offers year round, adventure-based activities such as rafting, kayaking, biking, rock climbing, canoeing, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. AWL combines people of all ages (with and without disabilities) with the goal of promoting understanding and respect for diversity, teaching physical and social skills, developing environmental stewardship, and helping people recognize their unique potential. Approximately 30% of AWL participants have a physical and/or developmental disability such as cerebral palsy, autism, traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury. Program benefits are well documented in research studies. For instance, research has shown that participation in inclusive recreational activities produced positive effects upon group dynamics, trust, social relations, and social self-efficacy, self-confidence, self- esteem and increased adolescent acceptance of individuals with disabilities. |
Many AWL participants express doubts in their ability to climb a rock wall or paddle a canoe, so when they learn these skills and meet personal goals, they feel an incredible sense of accomplishment. In addition, kids without any physical limitations are often inspired when they see a peer with a disability accomplish the same or similar physical challenges. This becomes an incredible tool for youth to learn how to value themselves and others. Adventures Without Limits is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and succeeds with the help of community supporters like you, grants, special events, and other sources. Our Tax ID # is 72-1572963 and all donations to Adventures Without Limits are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. |
